In Gracia Querejeta’s last film, Maribel Verdú plays Elia, a woman whose 40th birthday serves as an excuse to gather a few friends and relations at a luxury country house. She wants to tell them something: she’s the sole winner of this week’s EuroMillions jackpot.

BIOGRAPHY

Gracia Querejeta (Madrid, 1962) is a director, writer and producer. In 1992 she made her feature film directorial debut with Una estación de paso, Special Jury Prize at the Valladolid Film Festival. Later, she shot El último viaje de Robert Rylands (Robert Rylands’ Last Journey, 1994) and Cuando vuelves a mi lado (By My Side Again, 1999), winner of eight Goya nominations. In 2004 she directed Héctor, Best Film Award at the Malaga Festival. Siete mesas de billar francés (Seven Billiard Tables, 2007) won the Silver Shell for Best Screenplay (co-written with David Planells) at the San Sebastian Festival. 15 años y un día (15 Years and One Day, 2013) bagged 4 awards in Malaga, including Best Film.
