The latest film from the master of anime, Mamoru Hosoda is the first animatied film to compete at the San Sebastian Film Festival Official Selection. Kyuta is a solitary boy who lives in Tokyo, and Kumatetsu is a supernatural creature isolated in an imaginary world. One day the boy crosses the border into the imaginary world and makes friends with Kumatetsu, who becomes his friend and spiritual guide. The encounter opens the way to all sorts of adventures.
Mamoru Hosoda first came to public attention in the early 2000 with one of the first movies in the “Digimon Adventure” series and the sixth instalment in the “One Piece” series, Omatsuri danshaku to himitsu no sima (Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, 2005). For several years he worked for the companies Toei Animation and Madhouse before creating, in 2011, his own animation studio, Studio Chizu. Particularly interesting works in his filmography are Toki wo kakeru shojo (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, 2006), Sama wozu (Summer Wars, 2009) and Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children, 2012).
