The portrait of a young Chinese director who has become one of the most important filmmakers of our time. The documentary, directed by Walter Salles, dwells on the question of memory (individual as well as collective) and cinema. Jia Zhang-ke returns to his birthplace, the Shanxi province in Northern China, and to the locations of his films. Premiered in the Berlinale's Dokumente Panorama section.

BIOGRAPHY

Walter Salles began making his mark with Terra estrangeira (Foreign Land, 1995), presented in Zabaltegi-New Directors. Central do Brasil (Central Station, 1998) won the Golden Bear for Best Film and Best Actress in Berlin, the Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Foreign Film and two Academy Award nominations. Diarios de motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries, 2004) won the BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film and the Oscar for Best Song. Other interesting works in his career are Abril despedaçado (Behind the Sun, 2001), Dark Water (2005) and On the Road (2012).
