The latest film from the producers of Kimi no Na Wa / Your Name, an adaptation of the Prix Goncourt 2013 and a 3D exploration of underwater treasures with the voice of Arnold Schwarzenegger join Fernando Franco’s Morir to complete the four special screenings in the Official Selection at the San Sebastian Festival.
Albert Dupontel (Saint-Germaine-en-Laye, France, 1964) has worked as an actor for Gaspar Noé and Jacques Audiard, also having made films including his debut, Bernie (1996) and 9 mois ferme (9 Month Stretch, 2012), closing film of the Pearls section in 2013 and winner of the Césars for Best Screenplay and Best Actress (Sandrine Kiberlain). Here he directs, stars and writes - with the author Pierre Lemaitre, author of the book of the same name - Au revoir là-haut / See You Up There.
Wonders of the Sea 3D, produced and narrated by Schwarzenegger (The Terminator, Total Recall), was shot over a period of three years in underwater worlds from Fiji to the Bahamas. The film is directed by the explorer and producer Jean-Michel Cousteau (Toulon, France, 1938), son of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, together with Jean-Jacques Mantello, a pioneer of 3D submarine cinema in films including Ocean World 3D, screened at the Velodrome in 2009.
The production company of Kimi no Na Wa / Your Name, highest grossing film in the history of Japanese cinema, premiered last year at San Sebastian, presents Uchiage hanabi, shita kara miruka? Yoko kara miruka? / Fireworks, Should We See it From the Side or the Bottom? Directed by Akiyuki Shinbo (Fukushima, Japan, 1961) and Nobuyuki Takeuchi, the movie is based on the homonymous TV series by Shunji Iwai.
These three films make up the Official Selection special screenings section together with the already-mentioned Morir, by Fernando Franco (Seville, Spain, 1976), winner with his first film, La herida, of the Special Jury Prize and Silver Shell for Best Actress in San Sebastian (Marian Álvarez).
With these, we have now announced 18 of the Official Selection titles. In the coming weeks we will reveal the remaining titles to complete the section.
