Xavier Legrand studied Dramatic Art at the National Conservatory of Paris. In theatre he has performed in works by Chekhov, Shakespeare, Harold Pinter, Michel Vinave and Peter Handke. He has worked with filmmakers such as Louis Garrel, Laurent Jaoui, Benoit Cohen and Brigitte Sy. His first short film as a director, Avant que de tout perdre, participated in more than a hundred international festivals, receiving four awards at Clermont-Ferrand 2013 and the César for Best Short Film in 2014. Jusqu’à la garde (Custody) won the Silver Lion for Best Director and Best First Film in Venice.
