El Bar / The Bar
Made in Spain

Nine in the morning. A motley crew are having breakfast in a bar in the centre of Madrid. One of them is in a hurry; on his way out the door he’s shot in the head. No-one dares to help him. They’re trapped.

BIOGRAPHY

In his career Álex de la Iglesia has made widely varying films – ranging from ambitious productions for an international audience and others more faithful to Spanish tradition, with touches of the grotesque and black humour. Outstanding in his filmography are titles such as Acción mutante (Mutant Action, 1992, 3 Goyas), El día de la Bestia (The Day of the Beast, 1995, 6 Goyas), Perdita Durango (1997), La comunidad (Common Wealth, 2000, Silver Shell for Best Actress in San Sebastian and 3 Goyas), Balada triste de trompeta (The Last Circus, 2010, Best Screenplay and Directing at the Venice Festival) or Las brujas de Zugarramurdi (Witching & Bitching, 2013, 8 Goyas).
