“THERE ARE GOOD FILMS WITH HUGE GENDER PROBLEMS”
Thursday, September 28th, 2017

The Argentine film producer Paula Vaccaro is forming part of the Official Jury. She says that when judging films she likes them to take her away on an emotional journey. She also focuses on how they treat women and the role that female characters play in films, as she is very concerned about this issue. She also thinks there are huge gender problems in cinema. She doesn’t pretend that women should always be the main characters, but that when they do appear in a film they should have completely rounded personalities, and not be mere adornments or love-interests for the male characters. They should also speak among themselves, and not just about men. Women should have an identity, a name and a character of their own. She thinks it is vital for a film jury to have a good president and she says that John Malkovich is doing a great job, especially as he stresses that they should talk about what they like about the films rather than focusing on what they don’t like. As for her future plans, she is going to produce a film for Monica Bellucci and she is also making a Colombian film with Victoria Sola and preparing another project with Aaron Brookner.
