Tuesday, September 18th, 2018

The San Sebastian International Film Festival will sign the Charter for Parity and Inclusion of Women in Cinema on Sunday, September 23, at 12:00, in the Kursaal press conference room.

The Festival Director, José Luis Rebordinos, will be accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Spanish Government, Carmen Calvo; the Spanish Minister of Culture and Sport, José Guirao; the President of the Festival’s Board of Directors and Mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia; and the President of CIMA, Cristina Andreu. The event will be presented by the Vice-President of CIMA, Virginia Yagüe.

The initiative, presented to the public at the last edition of the Cannes Festival by the 5050x2020 collective, is promoted on this occasion by CIMA, the leading association representing women in film and audiovisual media in Spain.

CHARTER FOR PARITY AND INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN CINEMA

With this signature, the Festival pledges to:

  • Compile statistics broken down by gender, regarding both the number of films received for their selection and those chosen and programmed, in order to obtain real and reliable data on the presence of projects participated by women.
  • Publish the list of members of its selection committee and programmers.
  • Establish a calendar of changes in the Festival’s executive bodies with a view to achieving parity within the current period of mandate of said bodies.
  • Issue a yearly communication on the progress made.
  • While in San Sebastian, the representatives of CIMA will be available to talk to journalists to whom they will provide, if desired, the data of the 2017 Report on the representation of women in the Spanish film industry.
