Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
You only have to look back over the early days of film history to realise that the first guest invited to the magic of the seventh art was music. The technical advances which would enable us to hear the actors’ voices or the sounds lending atmosphere to each scene had still not made their appearance and pianists, gramophones and even orchestras large and small arrived to provide the counterpoint and musical backing for the images. The album Voces de cine is a tribute to that long and delicious relationship between film and music, originating in those primitive experiences and today the holder of a long and productive history. The different soundstripes of this CD have been prepared with immense love for cinema and for the mythical songs to have continued beyond the films that embraced them, proceeding to take on their own lives, melodies which have in their own right become the soundtrack not only of the big screen stories, but of our lives and of the collective unconscious. Based on an original idea by Ainhoa Zubillaga, the project is a commitment to revising these coloured melodies journeying from lyrical to jazz (and back again), twelve arrangements signed by Iñaki Salvador and with the incorporation of a new guest to what was originally the Zubillaga- Salvador duo, that of the saxophonist Mikel Andueza. The concert given by these three musicians, to take place on September 23 at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, represents the very first time that this new album will have been performed before an audience.
