Ruth works in a neuroscience research lab, despite coming from an extremely traditionalist and conservative Christian family. She suddenly finds herself facing her past when her former lover reemerges after twenty years in jail, prompting her to question her feelings, her life and eventually even her faith.
Simon Jaquemet studied Film Directing at the Zurich University of the Arts and has won numerous awards for his music videos and short films, among which are Die Burg (2005), Bling Bling Trick (2005), Rakete (2006), Block (2007) and Laura's Party (2010). Chrieg, his first feature film, was presented in the New Directors section of the San Sebastian Festival in 2014. Der Unschuldige is his second feature film.
