Ash Is Purest White
Perlak

Qiao is in love with Bin, a local mobster. During a fight between rival gangs, she fires a gun to protect him. Qiao gets five years in prison for this act of loyalty. Upon her release, she goes looking for Bin to pick up where they left off. A story of love, betrayal and loyalty set in China’s underworld.

BIOGRAPHY

Jia Zhang-ke debuted with Xiao wu (Pickpocket) in 1998. Later, among others, he made Sanxia haoren (Still Life, 2006), winner of the Golden Lion in Venice, and Er shi si cheng (24 City, 2008), presented in Zabaltegi at the San Sebastian Festival, as was the short film Cry Me a River (2008). His three latest films, Tian zhu ding (A Touch of Sin, 2013), Shan he gu ren (Mountains May Depart, 2015) and Ash is Purest White, competed at Cannes and the first of the three won the Best Screenplay Award. Shan he gu ren also won the Audience Award for Best European Film in San Sebastian. In 2016 he sat on the Official Jury and presented the short film The Hedonists in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera.
