The year is 1907. Lucy Honeychurch is an innocent girl part of the British high society that visits Italy for the first time together with her maid. Lucy changes in Italy due to two violent episodes that enter her virginal life: she is witness to a muerder and she falls in love with a young man who is as well a witness to it. The young man is visiting Florence with his father. They both have liberal political ideas and are, therefore, criticized by the rest of the British guests in the pension. The maid decides to end their trip and retusn with Lucy to England, who, once there, accepts a formal relationship with a young englishman. Yet, when the young man she met in Italy returns, she begins a battle between her feelings and the oposition of her maid.

This canges the position of the rebel group, and a human conflict due to the presence of the doal develops.

However, Klaus harbours the desire to continue the crude practice of experientation even while living as an expatriate. He is looked after by a young man named Angelo qho begins to collaborate in the satisfaction of Klaus's desires.Eventually, he begins to blackmail Klaus and little by little takes possession of his house. This difficult situation continues untik an intense struggle for physical and mental survival ensues.
