Mr. Baxter, thinking that Jimmy's ideas must be good, promotes him to the advertising department. But Mr. Maxford appears, tears up his check and denounces Jimmy.

He reveals that he wrote to his mother telling her he'd been sent overseas and that he hasn't been home for a year. The Marines telephone his mother, informing her that Woodrow is a hero, before escorting him to a train and giving him several of their own medals. But Woodrow is mortified when the entire town greets him at the station.

Louis hears his remarks with amusement, but his suspicions are confirmed when he sees the Grand Constable receive a Burgundian missive.
