A wide-ranging representation of filmmakers, actors, producers and screenwriters from all over the world will come to the San Sebastián Festival’s 74th edition, to show a total of 263 titles from 47 countries. At a press conference held today in Tabakalera, the Festival director, José Luis Rebordinos, and the deputy director Maialen Beloki announced the list of names including, among other personalities, Orlando Bloom, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Ricardo Darín, Virginie Efira, Lali Espósito, Eduard Fernández, Dolores Fonzi, Jeremy Irons, Denis Lavant, Vincent Lindon, Rami Malek, Noémie Merlant, Mercedes Morán, Lena Olin, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Brad Pitt, Tom Sturridge and Marcelo Subiotto.

Also coming to San Sebastián to present their films are directors Fatih Akin, Beth de Araújo, Lukas Dhont, Jesse Eisenberg, Nicole Garcia, Pablo Larraín, Diego Luna, Valentina Maurel, Martin McDonagh, Tsai Ming-Liang, Cristian Mungiu, Hans Peter Moland, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, Pawel Pawlikowski, Ira Sachs and Andrey Zvyagintsev. In addition, the Donostia Award will go to the German filmmaker Werner Herzog – who will be joined by actor Orlando Bloom to introduce his latest feature film, Bucking Fastard – and to the actress Naomi Watts, protagonist of The Housewife directed by Ben Shirinian, who will also be accompanied by the actress Lena Olin. Bloom will present the Donostia Award to Herzog and filmmaker J.A. Bayona, to Naomi Watts.

Opening the list of international attendees in the competitive Official Selection is Fatih Akin, the director de Geister / Ghost Song, and its protagonists, Mariam Dawoud and Eren M. Güvercin. Jesse Eisenberg will present his third film behind the camera (The Debut); actress Marion Cotillard will accompany the director Nicole Garcia (7h40 ce matin-là / Milo); filmmaker Fréderic Cavayé will attend with Vincent Lindon, Tahar Rahim, Noémie Merlant, Camille Cottin and Benjamin Lavernhe (Les Miserábles); Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson and Alice Bailey Johnson will represent Mike Leigh, the director of Tender Loving Care, and Hans Peter Moland will come with Herbert Nordrum and Asta Kamma August (Markens grøde / Growth of the Soil). Also showing their films in the competition are Amanda Kernell (Garrat du váimmu / Brace Your Heart) and Yeşim Ustaoğlu (Artakalan / What Remains), alongside three first-timers: the German director Tony Vahl (Krux), the Japanese Maha Harada (My Father’s Room) and the Chinese Biao Ah (Bian jing / Border). Showing out of competition, actor and producer Brad Pitt will endorse the premiere of The Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer, while the Belgian filmmaker Michaël R. Roskam will close the Festival with Le Faux Soir, whose cast is headed by Arieh Worthalter.

Actor Denis Lavant will return to New Directors as one of the actors of Thomas Woodroffe’s Bloques erráticos / Erratic, and filmmaker Tsai Ming Liang will participate in Zabaltegi-Tabakalera with Weichen (Dust). However, it is Perlak that boasts the highest concentration of big names. Martin McDonagh will present Wild Horse Nine, while filmmaker Ira Sachs, as well as presiding over the edition’s Official Jury, will travel to San Sebastián with Rami Malek and Tom Sturridge, the stars of The Man I Love. The section showcasing the best of other fests also boasts filmmakers such as Lukas Dhont (Coward / Cobarde), Pawel Pawlikowski (Fatherland), Cristian Mungiu (Fjord), Beth de Araújo (Josephine), Andrey Zvyagintsev (Minotaur), Nanni Moretti (Succederà questa notte / It Will Happen Tonight), Leah Nelson (Tangles) and Olivier Nakache & Eric Toledano (Juste une illusion / Just an Illusion). Furthermore, Virginie Efira, prize-winning protagonist of Soudain / All of a Sudden, will attend in representation of the director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi.

Moreover, in the Other Activities section, the screening of The Mission on the 40^th anniversary of its release will be attended by its director Roland Joffé, the actor Jeremy Irons and the producer David Puttnam.

Latin American cinema

The usual representation of Latin American cinema at the Festival includes presence in almost all of its sections. In the Official Selection, actress Lali Espósito and actor Marcelo Subiotto will make an appearance for the premiere of Glaxo by the Argentinian Benjamín Naishtat, while Mercedes Morán and Dolores Fonzi will be joined by the writer Mariana Enriquez to endorse the participation of Mis muertos tristes / My Sad Dead, by the Chilean Pablo Larraín, in an Official Selection also hosting the premiere of Vicentina pede disculpas / On Behalf of My Son, by the Brazilian Gabriel Martins.

In Horizontes Latinos, the Costa Rican director Valentina Maurel will be accompanied by actresses Daniela Marín and Marina de Tavira (Siempre soy tu animal materno / Forever your Maternal Animal), while Mexico’s  Diego Luna will attend with Adriana Paz, Anna Díaz and Teresa Lozano (Ceniza en la boca / Ashes) and Paraguay’s Marcelo Martinessi (Narciso) will do the same with Diro Romero, Mona Martínez and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart. Other directors presenting their films are the Chilean Manuela Martelli (El deshielo / Meltdown), the Mexicans Fernando Eimbcke (Moscas / Flies), Bruno Santamaría (Seis meses en el edificio rosa con azul / Six Months in the Pink & Blue Building) and Fernanda Tovar (Chicas tristes / Sad Girlz); the Argentinians Lorenzo Ferro (El tren fluvial / The River Train) and Alessandra Sanguinetti (La ilusión de un verano sin fin / The Illusion of an Everlasting Summer); the Brazilian Ricardo Alves Jr. (A Professora de Francés / The French Teacher) and the Colombians Esteban Hoyos and Juan Miguel Gelacio (Cinco años, cuatro meses / Five Years, Four Months).

Latin American will also have presence in sections such as Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, uniting the directors of Pedro en el país / Pedro in the Country, María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat, as well as their compatriot Albertina Carri, who will bring the out-of-competition performance entitled Cine vivo, un artefacto. The Other Activities section too will include the screening of Hernán Goldfrid’s Lo dejamos acá / Therapy Done Right, attended by the actor Ricardo Darín, image of the official poster of the San Sebastián Festival’s 74^th edition.

Spanish cinema

Spanish cinema will have a generous presence including, in the Official Selection, Eduard Fernández, the protagonist of Roberto Bueso’s El mal padre. Filmmaker Mikel Gurrea will compete with Sants / Saints, boasting a cast featuring Victoria Luengo, Ariadna Gil and Eulàlia Ramón, while Javier Ruiz Caldera will do the same with 5 minutos más / Five More Minutes in the company of Javier Cámara, Belén Cuesta and Berto Romero, who, as well as featuring as an actor, also penned the screenplay. Showing their works out of competition are Koldo Almandoz (Azken agurra / The Last Goodbye, with Iñigo Azpitarte and Izaro Nieto) and the twosome Elena Martín Gimeno and Sandra Romero, directors of El castillo, the series created by Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva featuring a cast including Raúl Arévalo, Valentina Vidal, Omar Ayuso and Laia Marull. In addition, Zoe Bonafonte, Manuela Calle and Adelfa Calvo will accompany the director Daniel Monzón (Ruega por nosotras / Pray For Us) while Antonio de la Torre and Patricia López Arnaiz will do the same with David Pérez Sañudo (Sacamantecas / The Harvester). Fernando Trueba will show Bajañi alongside Niño Josele and Más allá de la sociedad / Beyond Society will be represented by its co-creators, the director Carlos Torres and the producer J.A. Bayona, in the company of actor Enzo Vogrincic.

In New Directors Oriol Pla and Marina Salas will accompany Javier Giner in his feature debut, Esta soledad / This Solitude, while Jaime Lorente, the director of El mal hijo / The Bad Son, will attend with Miguel Ángel Puro, Susi Sánchez and Hugo Arbués. Coming to Zabaltegi-Tabakalera are the director Meritxel Colell (Lejos de los árboles / Far From the Trees); Isaki Lacuesta (Jaleos / Flamenco Sketches), with the singer Soleá Morente, and Oskar Alegría (HAMALAU gau). La bola negra, the film by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi programmed in Perlak, will see the appearances of Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas and Penélope Cruz, who also stars in The Invite, while Andrea Ros and Patrick Criado will head for the Velodrome with Aritz Moreno, the director of Karateka.

Director Albert Serra will return to San Sebastián to open Made in Spain with Seize moments de ma vie / Sixteen Moments of My Life. Also participating in the section are the director Laura García Alonso and the actress Alba Sáez (Corredora / Runner); the actress and director Aina Clotet (Viva / Alive); Carolina Yuste and Afioco Gnecco, who have directed and star in Este cuerpo mío / This Body of Mine; filmmakers such as Bárbara Farré (Mala bestia / Bad Beast), Marta Matute (Yo no moriré de amor) and Ian de la Rosa (Iván & Hadoum), as well as Carlo Padial (Pizza Movies), who comes with Berto Romero and Judit Martín; Cristina Diz and Stefan Butzmühlen (Die gäste / The Guests), with Greta Fernández, Jan Bülow and Eduard Fernández; and Víctor García León (Altas capacidades / Better Class), with Marian Álvarez. In addition, Isabel Coixet will present Tre ciotole / Three Goodbyes and Júlia de Paz, La buena hija / The Good Daughter.

In Klasikoak, filmmaker Jaime Chávarri will accompany the screening of El desencanto / The Disenchantment (1976), 50 years after the film was withdrawn from the Festival programme. The RTVE Galas will be attended, among others, by José Mota, director and protagonist of Arriba tutto, also featuring the actors Karra Elejalde and Olivia Molina; José Corbacho, author of Burundanga, with Adriana Torrebejano, Carol Rovira and Marcel Borras, among other actors; and Manuel Menchon Romero, director of La voz quebrada / Lorca: Broken Voices, a non-fiction featuring the voices of Álvaro Morte and Pedro Casablanc. In addition, actress Carmen Machi will receive the National Cinematography Award.

The film opening Zinemira is Inurri itsuak /The Blind Ants, whose director, Igor Legarreta, will attend with Urko Olazabal, Itziar Ituño and Josean Bengoetxea. Also participating in the section are filmmakers Nitya López (Simulacro / Family Drill), escorted by Iraia Elias and Miguel Garcés; Arantxa Aguirre (Un tal Karlos), along with the chef and TV presenter Karlos Arguiñano, and Jabier Elortegi (Gatibu, agur esan barik / Gatibu, Without Saying Goodbye), accompanied by the frontman of Gatibu, Alex Sardui, and its drummer Gaizka Salazar.

Music will once again take over in the Velodrome, where Ander Merino and Fermin Muguruza will present Muguruza FM 40 Tour, while Klasikoak will screen the restored copy of Ander eta Yul / Ander & Yul, directed by Ana Díez.

Juries at the 74th edition

The jury of the Official Selection at the San Sebastián Festival’s 74th edition will be presided over by the North American filmmaker Ira Sachs, who participates in this year’s Perlak with the film The Man I Love, premiered in competition at the last Festival de Cannes, and who had previously participated in the same section with Love is Strange (2014) and Little Men (2016). Accompanying him on the jury are the Japanese director and screenwriter Genki Kawamura, author of works including A Hundred Flowers (Official Selection, 2022) and Exit 8 (2025) and the producer, among other films, of Your Name (2016) and Monster (Perlak, 2023); the French screenwriter Catherine Paillé, writer of screenplays such as Le Sixième enfant / The Sixth Child (2022), Les Magnétiques / Magnetic Beats (2021) and Shéhérazade (2018); the Brazilian actress and producer Alice Braga, star of feature films including Cidade de Deus (City of God, Perlak, 2002) and I Am Legend (2007) and series like Queen of the South and We Are Who We Are (Official Selection, Special Screening, 2020); and the Basque actor Patricia López Arnaiz, who, after winning the Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance for Los destellos / Glimmers (2024), starred in the Golden Shell-winning film Los domingos / Sundays (2025) and returns this year out of competition to the Official Selection with Sacamantecas / The Harvester. Completing the jury are the Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård, protagonist, among other titles, of It (2017), Nosferatu (2024), Dead Man’s Wire (2025) and of the series Hemlock Grove, and the British producer Mike Goodridge, who has participated in works including Club Zero (2023), Touch (2024), Orphan (2025) and Ballad of a Small Player (Official Selection, 2025).

Programme and sale of tickets for the 74th edition

The programme will be published on the Festival website and in local media on Monday, 7 September. On 9, 10 and 11 September, the Film by Film guide will go on sale at a price of 2.50 euros at the Festival offices (second floor of Tabakalera, from 10:00 to 14:00 and 15:30 to 19:00). From Saturday 12, it will be available from the Festival information desk outside the Kursaal (open on 12-17 September from 09:00 to 20:00 and on 18-26 September from 8:30 to 22:00).

General tickets will go on sale on Sunday 13, at 09:00. That day tickets can be purchased for the first three days of the Festival (Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20); on the 14, tickets can be purchased for Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23, as well as any left over for the previous days and, finally, on Tuesday 15, those for Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Saturday 26, as well as those remaining for the other screenings.
